The day after the storm clears out, Hickey tacks up a note on the community hall message board. Ever since Raylan mentioned the idea of all those wolf-changed getting together to form a pack, to take down a deer or a moose in a communal hunt, it hasn't left Hickey's mind. There's at least four of them here, probably more. That's enough. They could absolutely take down a moose. They just need to get to know each other, figure each other out, and become more in-touch as a pack. Easy enough, yeah?

So he puts up his notice. And the evening of the meeting, Hickey gets his little soiree set up. He does have food: rabbit jerky, a few jars of pickled vegetables, bottles of water and a bottle of pine wine, all set out on a table he dragged out and placed near the pews. (He's a good host, dammit). The set-up is very informal: it's a place where everybody can chit-chat and get to know each other at the start. Gotta make sure everyone is comfortable before he makes his proposal, after all.

Chloe had wondered whether to go through with the harvest party once Lalo had disappeared, but as they say, the show must go on. There's still a lot worth celebrating, and people need something hopeful after the mess last month. Luckily her house had made it through everything all right.

The poster had said to wear a costume, so she's hoping to see a lot of those, and she’d recruited some people to help her put together the menu exactly to Lalo’s specifications, so unfortunately no one is safe from British Potatoes. There are even candles for the birthday cake.

Chloe herself is dressed as a sexy lumberjack, with one of Lalo’s old flannels tied in a knot under her breasts and denim cutoffs made from the jeans Kostya had gotten blood on (shh). She's got a fire roaring, because otherwise she’d freeze.

Lying by omission is still lying.

Lying by omission was never a qualm Francis Crozier had. It was a choice he made over and over again as captain of Terror and then expedition commander, to withhold information for the good of the crew, to preserve their morale and help keep that little flame of hope still burning, but each and every time without fail the good-intentioned lie turned sour and haunting. It was never a lesson well-learned despite this, and the habit continued even when the truth was so obvious and the omission almost an insult to the intelligence and the personal tragedies of the men he survived.

Lying by omission is still lying, and with the arrival of one more in the their party - his second, his confidant and one he'd usually make complicit in those lies - Crozier slowly came to realize that this attempt to preserve did more harm than it ever did good. The decision to relinquish whatever control he still held over their collective narrative wasn't an easy one, but it was correct and just. It wasn't his story, even if it felt like he carried the weight of it on his own all those lonely years. That couldn't be further from the reality of what his men faced day-to-day as living ghosts now.

He was alive, and they had died. He couldn't keep lying to them. They deserved so much more than Crozier's craven attempt to protect them from what they already knew to be the truth.
