Sorry. [ She breaths it out softly, a little sheepishly. ] Did... I wake you up?
[ She must have, right? Just with being so restless, although she really was trying to be quiet about it. There's a long pause as she lies there in the dark before she gives up and turns over onto her other side to face Wynonna. If she squints, she can just about make her out in the gloom. ]
... I can't sleep.
no subject
No, I wasn't asleep.
[ She's got shit of her own running through her head, but at least this gives her a slight reprieve. There's a rustle of hair against cloth as she turns her head on the pillow, looking over, blinking in the dark. Just like at the homestead, the dark is so complete, here. No streetlights or floodlights to break it up. ]
Worried about Hickey?
cw references to cannibalism
She shudders, feeling wetness in her eyes as she falls quiet for a few moments. ]
He wouldn't try anything while I'm here. [ She's safe here, she knows that. There's a soft sound and she shakes her head. ] No, I'm just— I'm just kinda... cold.

[ We, she says, and that's still weird, but it's nice, too. She'd only just started feeling like a team with Dolls before winding up here, and she hadn't realized how much she'd been missing having someone she could trust at her side.
She purses her lips at Kate's excuse, but doesn't push. Only shifts, reaching over to tug the sheet and blanket a little more securely up over the girl's shoulder. ]
Makes you miss electric blankets, huh?

[ She now knows all this... horrible stuff. She lost her temper with Hickey and Mr Jopson got his nose broken. She's had to move out of the Community Hall and be here, which is probably a whole lot more stress on Lieutenant Little. And everyone keeps assuring her it'll be okay and it's not her fault but it— it sucks, and they're all stuck in this little town together.
Wynonna moves to tuck her in, and in the chill of the room the closer, temporary presence of body heat is a welcome one.
... Despite herself, she shuffles a little closer. ]
Makes me miss Oregon. Even Fall stayed pretty warm.
no subject
Yeah, I thought Purgatory got cold.
[ It did. Does. The winters are long and snowy and the temperatures regularly plummet below zero, but it's nothing like this. At least in the Ghost River Triangle she could be sure of spring and summer, long golden days on the prairie. ]
I really shoulda gone to Puerto Vallarta when I had the chance.
no subject
At least you're like... somewhat prepared for the cold. [ Like, she's still from Canada, at the end of the day. That gives her a bit of an advantage compared to the rest of them. ]
It wasn't so bad with Diefenbaker staying over, his fur's super toasty. Kinda makes me wish I was a wolf.
no subject
[ She glances over, her mouth quirking. ]
Yeah... I'm not really seeing 'wolf.' More like... 'kitten.'
[ All cute and harmless, with occasional sharp little claws. ]
But I bet he was nice and cozy to sleep with.
no subject
[ She'd make a really cute bunny.... ]
He was. [ There's a smile in her words. To think she was a little scared of him at first. Look at her now, snuggling up to a wolf. Diefenbaker is a real sweetie-pie. ] But I know I can't just... keep him, y'know? That's not fair on Constable Fraser.

[ A bunny... maybe. They're sure all treating her like one, Little especially. As though she's some small, breakable thing in imminent danger. Isn't that why Wynonna's here to begin with, and why she's here now, rolling her eyes at the ceiling. ]
Oh, yeah, we gotta be fair to Constable Fraser.
[ Bleugh. ]
He's a big boy. I'm sure he was fine without his wolf for a couple nights.

[ No cosy fur for her. Sadface. ]
Hey. [ You might not like him, Wynonna, but Kate does! He's a good person and.... super dreamy. ] Yeah, but like my point is it's his wolf, not mine. So like, it's not like I keep having him stay here to cuddle with.
[ No cosy fur of her own, no cosy wolf. Bigger sadface. However, she does have....... a Wynonna.
It might be dark, but she's making puppy eyes right now. Very pointedly. ]
no subject
... oh, no. Nope. Don't even think it, Kate.
no subject
SHE'S COLD, WYNONNA. SHE'S COLD AND SHE CAN'T SLEEP. :( ]
Pleeeease.
[ It's for warmth. ]
no subject
[ She squirms towards the other edge of the bed, but her retreat is short-lived, and Kate's already a lot closer.
And she has to admit the body heat is nice.
Ugh. ]
Will you put those puppy eyes away??
no subject
[ Who might actually be asleep, and it's already terrible that he's given up his bed and having to sleep on the couch in his own cabin.
Sorry, Wynonna. Nowhere to run to now.
It's happening. It's totally happening.
She's gonna snuggle right up with you. Very gently cuddling in now. ]
Will totally put them away, yeah.
[ If you snuggle in. ]
no subject
[ He definitely does, because he's the one who brought her in on this to begin with. She certainly intends to rain revenge down on him whenever she gets the chance.
But Kate's already curling into her side, and Wynonna heaves out a sigh, looks up at the ceiling, and – reluctantly, awkwardly – shifts a little towards the younger girl, until Kate's tucked against her and she can feel the girl's hair under her cheek. ]
Now will you go to sleep?
no subject
[ He doesn't!! Please don't rain down revenge on him. He's wonderful but also very tired and very stressed — and he's not the only one, as Kate fights back a yawn.
There's the tiniest shiver out of relief and sleepiness because warmth, and she's pleasantly curled up — quite content. Wynonna might not be a wolf but
This is nice. ]
Mm, yeah. [ She takes a deep breath and finally settles. ] Night, Wynonna.
anddddd scene
But all in all it's not so different from the nights she'd spent curled up with Waverly or Willa when they were little and the prairies winds were blowing cold outside, so Wynonna just exhales, long and slow, and closes her own eyes.
It's true. The warmth is... nice.
And maybe the company's not so bad, either. ]
Night, Kate.
